Recent events have shown that global economies are fragile. Pandemics (like COVID-19), cyber-attacks (like JBS in 2021 & Maersk in 2017), and ever-changing oil prices have disrupted economies and supply chains-causing price spikes and supply shortages.
In the recent past, every community was this way. Your food came from local farmers, and your goods came from local artisans. A cyber-attack on the world’s largest shipping company wouldn’t affect goods traveling from your neighbor.
At the same time, we don’t ignore the benefits of Globalism. It gave us access to inexpensive luxury goods. Like fresh produce in the middle of February. And it brought us fantastic technology.
Independence Farm uses the best of both worlds. With current technology we promote independent, self-sufficient communities by providing local, fresh produce.

What are Microgreens?
Small sprout-like greens that taste great! Technically, they are immature versions of vegetables (like pea, radish, sunflower, and broccoli). Most often people use them as nutritional supplements (because they’re packed with nutrients), flavor boosters, and texture enhancers.
How do I get some?
We make weekly deliveries to your work or home (around Black River Falls). To order click here, or call/text us (608.770.2240).
Does Independence Farm use chemicals/pesticides/herbicides?
No. We grow indoors in a controlled environment, so we don’t have to worry about weeds or pests. We use Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide to sterilize our equipment, and occasionally we use it to prevent mold when our seedlings are sprouting.
How is Independence Farm grown?
Everything is grown indoors, under LED grow lights. Microgreens are grown in a peat-based soil media. Mature vegetables are grown in hydroponic system.
